When the freewheel is used as a non return device, the lever fixed to the outer race must be sandwiched between two brackets; otherwise a pin must be inserted in the looped hole.

If the freewheel is used as an intermittent feed, the lever must be attached lengthways using the hole for a pushrod or similar. In any case, to avoid overloading the bushes, the lever must be given a certain amount of clearance to allow for the axial movement.
